Schedules for Summer
Free or Cheap
Every Sunday evening, I plan out the following week for summer. This helps me stay focused, get the kids out of the house, and see what upcoming events we’ve got coming up. We leave for a week of the beach right after the kids get out of school, but after that…no plans have been made.
Are you planning to travel this summer with your kids? Here’s a blog post I did to help fellow parents out: Traveling with kids
So, even though we plan out our week that Sunday, there are still lists I make to remember what things we can do that are free or at least cheap. My first step each week is to head to Hickory Macaroni Kid to their monthly calendar.
It would be impossible for me to know all the events that are going around in our town unless this resource was available. We love it.
We also will base what days are swimming, library, and park days at that time.
There are activities that happen every week for us though.
- We will always have a library day
- We will have a cooking day where the kids will make a meal for the family
- Swim days are a must. One of my best friends has a pool so it makes it really nice to be able to pack a lunch and go
- Home day/pjs all day will occur once a week
- They will have chores weekly
- We have as many play dates as possible because truth be told…my kids are much better when they have a friend to play with
I’d love to incorporate some day trips this year. Maybe a day hiking, a trip to Asheville, fishing day, maybe a drive to Lake James for fun? We did a drive in movie last year and the kids thought is was awesome. We do have a membership to our local Science Center that was gifted to the kids for Christmas so we will definitely utilize that this summer. Keeping a budget during all of these activities is a big deal to me, so all of these outings will include us packing our meals and explaining to the kids that they don’t need that trinket 😉 The goal is to have fun, learn something new, and spend time together. That being said, I will have a Summer Fun budget line with just a little bit to get us by.
What would a typical week look like for us?
Monday- Swim Day
Tuesday-Library Day with a park lunch
Wednesday- Home Day: Chores, family game night, and kids make their dinner for the week
Thursday- Play date with friends, outside slip n’ slide fun, and potluck dinner
Friday-Day adventure to somewhere new: a new park, fishing, museum fun, or maybe a trip to a new town
Just planning for it makes me feel so much more organized and I know the more I plan, the more likely I am to follow through.
My plan is to show you weekly activities that we have planned by Sunday evening for the following week. Want to follow along? You can subscriber here:
